1982 — Първите стъпки
Борислав „Боби“ Вълчев е роден на 18 ноември 1982 г. в София, България. Още от най-ранна възраст проявява изключителна музикална чувствителност, талант и дисциплина – качества, които поставят основите на неговия бъдещ творчески път и всеотдайност към музикалното изкуство.
1987–1988 — First Steps in Music
At the age of five, Valchev began studying piano, and just one year later, he made his national radio debut, performing “Let It Be” on Bulgarian National Radio. This early appearance revealed not only technical ability but also a natural charisma and connection with audiences.
1990–1996 — Sofia Boys Choir
Between the ages of eight and fourteen, Valchev became a member of the internationally acclaimed Sofia Boys Choir. During this formative period, he toured extensively across Europe, participating in prestigious festivals and competitions in countries such as Italy, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, and Austria. These experiences shaped his musicianship, discipline, and understanding of ensemble performance, while also exposing him to international audiences. Throughout these years, he continued developing his piano skills alongside his vocal training.
Mid–Late 1990s — Musical Expansion
Valchev continued his education at the National Music School “Lyubomir Pipkov” in Sofia, where he studied both piano and trumpet. Expanding beyond classical traditions, he began exploring broader musical expressions. He performed with ensembles such as the Sofia Wind Orchestra and the Botevgrad Brass Band, and participated in numerous European festivals, further refining his performance abilities and artistic versatility.
2000–2007 — Higher Education & Artistic Identity
He later graduated from the National Academy of Music “Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia, earning two master’s degrees in Pop and Jazz Piano, and Music Pedagogy and Theory. During this time, he worked closely with the legendary jazz pianist Milcho Leviev, participating in his improvisation masterclass and later assisting him. This mentorship played a defining role in shaping Valchev’s artistic philosophy, rooted in freedom, expression, and improvisation.
2008 — London & International Breakthrough
In 2008, Valchev was awarded a full scholarship to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Immersed in one of the world’s most dynamic music scenes, he expanded his artistic network and collaborated with international musicians. He served as a musical director and pianist for Claude J. Woods’ Earth, Wind & Fire Experience, and performed alongside globally renowned artists including George Benson, Marcus Miller, and Billy Cobham.
2008–2010 — Dual Career (UK & Bulgaria)
While based in London, Valchev maintained a strong presence in Bulgaria, where he became widely recognized as a musical director, arranger, composer, and performer. He collaborated with leading Bulgarian artists such as Vassil Petrov, Camellia Todorova, Orlin Pavlov, and Karizma (Galia and Miro), further establishing his reputation for versatility and artistic leadership.
2010–2011 — Relocation to Dubai
Valchev relocated to Dubai, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his international career. Alongside performing, he became actively involved in music education, teaching piano, trumpet, voice, and theory, while steadily building his presence in the region’s evolving music scene.
2011–2017 — Regional Recognition
During this period, he became a recurring performer at major international events, including the Dubai Jazz Festival. He appeared as a supporting act for world-renowned artists such as Earth, Wind & Fire Experience, TOTO, Chris Botti, Sting, Santana, David Gray, and Lionel Richie. He also performed at the Dubai World Cup and the Dubai Jazz Garden Festival, sharing stages with global icons while refining his own artistic identity.
2016 — “F&B” and Original Work
In Dubai, Valchev co-founded the duo F&B with Romanian singer Florentina Tuchel. Together, they released the album “Stereotype,” officially launched on May 9, 2016. The project served as a conceptual statement—a musical protest against societal limitations and creative conformity, reflecting Valchev’s commitment to artistic authenticity.
2010–Present — International Performer & Musical Director
Over the years, Valchev has established himself as a prominent figure in the Middle East’s music scene. He has performed at major venues and events including Dubai Opera, Expo 2020 Dubai, Formula 1, the Dubai World Cup, and the International Music Festival Bahrain. He is also a regular presence at prestigious venues such as Burj Al Arab, Atlantis The Palm, Armani Hotel, Emirates Palace, and many others. Leading various musical formations, including his jazz trio The Suspenders, he continues to perform across cultural, corporate, and international stages.
2020–2021 — Creative Evolution
During the global pandemic, Valchev shifted his focus toward recording and composing original music. This period marked a deeper exploration of his artistic voice, allowing him to develop new concepts and expand his creative direction beyond live performance.
Present Day — Artistic Philosophy
Today, Bobby Valchev is recognized for his charismatic stage presence and distinctive musical philosophy—“Never twice the same.” His work seamlessly blends classical discipline with jazz improvisation, driven by a constant pursuit of originality and non-standard expression. His performances are defined by elegance, spontaneity, and a refined musical narrative, positioning him as a unique and evolving voice in contemporary jazz.
